The first railway line in India was opened for traffic on 16th April 1853 between Mumbai and Thana, a distance of 33 Km. The total length of route at present is about 63,000 Km. Indian railway is the largest network in Asia and Second largest in the world(First is US). It has a man power strength of 1.7 million,every day it carries about 12 million peoples in about 7500 trains and more than one million tonnes of freight in about 6000 trains.
